Sam Altman, accused of abuse by his sister

Wall Street Journal:

The lawsuit, filed Monday in the U.S. Eastern District Court of Missouri, alleges that abuse occurred at their family home in Clayton, Mo., from approximately 1997 through 2006. Ann Altman was 3 years old, and Sam Altman was 12 at the start of the alleged abuse, which included forced sexual assault and battery, according to the complaint.

I would take this with a grain of salt. Family issues are complicated, family members’ psihiatric health even more so.

The thing that drew my attention was the damage claim: $75,000. That is highly unrealistic when alleging the head of OpenAI abused you.

The lawsuit requests a jury trial and damages exceeding $75,000. In another X post on Tuesday, Sam Altman said Mahoney wrote to his lawyer about a potentially much higher payout for Ann. In an email, Mahoney said Sam Altman excerpted an email to his lawyer that “outlined the risks to his client if we went to jury trial.” Mahoney wrote that no settlement demand was made before filing the lawsuit.

On one hand, given the position Altman is in today, I tend to believe his sister seeks attention, if not money.

On the other hand, as the law requires, both brother and sister are not guilty until proven so.
