iOS versus OS
I used to think that choosing between OSes from GUI perspective is more like choosing colors, that is, a matter of preference.
I mean, take a look:
Mac OS X (via MondayNote)
And Windows 7:
So far, I was right; it really is just a matter of preferences if you only consider the interface and don’t think about functionality at all.
Till iOS:
Now, if you think of it, the desktop OSes are filled with bloatware and false functional layout. This became obvious only after we saw how simple, clear and uncluttered an interface could and should be. The iOS’ GUI has just disappeared from user’s perspective! It became only an invisible shell you don’t have to handle in any way, it’s nothing you need to touch to get to where your interest is.
On MondayNote, Gassee is saying Mac OS has small chances to transform into iOS; of course not; there are touch and non touch interfaces that should stay distinct, at least from usability and ergonomics perspectives.
Still, the difference we’ve noticed above doesn’t say desktop GUI should contract into mobile / pad GUIs, but they should become uncluttered and free from what actually is an “OS’ native bloated GUI”
