Advertisers (read “many, large media corporations”) Retreat From Social Media Policing
These actions are in part a response to Republicans’ complaints that media companies and advertisers have silenced conservative voices, according to six people who have worked with major advertisers. Some of those criticisms have led to legal action: In August, Elon Musk’s X sued a coalition of large advertisers, the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), and several large brands such as Mars and CVS Health for colluding to boycott advertising on X.
And :
“It’s a massive risk for brands, commercially, to alienate the Republican leadership,” said Ruben Schreurs, group CEO of Ebiquity, a firm that helps companies analyze their media spend. “This has become an issue that is now being discussed in the boards of brands.”
And:
Donald Trump’s election for a second term as president puts more pressure on both social media and advertisers. Trump campaigned on limiting online platforms’ ability to moderate content, and recently picked Brendan Carr as commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. Carr has also said he wants to limit the “censorship” on tech platforms.
I know where this leads, it has been like this for hundreds of years, not going to be different today: next is “Poor fascists and pedophiles, we need to tread carefully because they are human beings too”.
